The Adventures of Martin and Lewis - DC Comics

From 1952 through 1957 DC Comics published a comic book series devoted to Dean and Jerry, titled The Adventures of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

The series ran for 40 issues, until the breakup of the team. From that point on, the series was renamed The Adventures of Jerry Lewis and ran for another 84 issues.

It's very odd to think of these guys as comic book heroes, but it's also a testament to their popularity at the time.

Much of the material in the series could have been drawn directly from the duo's stage act, with Dino portrayed as the suave ladies' man and Jerry the irrepressible nitwit.

Issue #2 of the series included a fairly straightforward 3-page bio of the team.

Once in awhile you might still find these titles on eBay. A quick survey this morning showed several of the 10 cent issues selling for upwards of $30 apiece.

Classic Film Show

I just ran across a treasure trove of information on the Web about one of my favorite subjects: classic films.

Christian Hayes writes The Classic Film Show, a relatively new guide to cinema (he's been publishing it since April of this year) including news, articles, commentary, recommendations and book reviews about classic movies.

Christian is a London-based writer, film historian and filmmaker with particular interest in silent and Classical Hollywood Cinema. He has written for the British Film Institute and has a forthcoming chapter in a new book about Chaplin as well. It's obvious that he is passionate about his subject and that he has studied it well.

He posted a very nice article about this Podcast, and I was delighted with his site after poking around a bit. If you're a fan of old movies, I think you'll enjoy it too.

2008 Dean Martin Festival

This weekend, the City of Steubenville, Ohio honors its favorite son, Dino Paul Crocetti.

The Festival will include a tribute concert tonight featuring Deana Martin and others, a film festival tomorrow, a parade on Saturday, and the Dean Martin Father's Day Brunch on Sunday among other activities.

Dino Paul Crocetti was born on June 7th, 1917 in Steubenville, Ohio.
