Save Stuebenville's Grand Theater

The Steubenville Historic Landmarks Foundation is currently working to save the once elegant Grand Theater on 4th Street in downtown Steubenville. It was built in the 1920s, modeled after a theater in New York City. It was the second air conditioned theater in the nation, and was home both to movies and live acts. Dean Martin would have spent a great deal of time there as a child watching his beloved Westerns, and as a young man dreaming of stardom.

The restoration project includes plans for a Dean Martin Museum on site.

Your help is critical right now. The building is scheduled for demolition, and can only be saved if it gets a new roof in the next few months. The Historic Landmarks Foundation is looking for 120 businesses or individuals who can afford to donate $1000 each as founding donors for the project, but donations of any size would be appreciated.

My wife and I are currently discussing how much we can afford to donate, but we will definitely be making a donation of some amount this week, and would encourage you to do the same.

Please make checks payable to the Steubenville Historic Landmarks Foundation Grand Theater Restoration Project. If you need a Federal Tax ID to make a donation please call Scott Dressel at (740) 632-2899 or email grandtheater@historicsteubenville.org. Donations (with name, address and phone number) can be sent to Chase Bank, 401 Market Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952. You can also donate via PayPal on the Foundation's website.

The Steubenville Historic Landmarks Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit (in process).

Let's do our best to honor Dean Martin by helping to save this historic landmark in his hometown of Steubenville. If you do happen to make a donation, please let me know so I can recognize your contribution on the program.

Thanks!

Dean Martin Festival 2010 Links and Information

I'm still editing audio and preparing for a Podcast recap of the festivities in Steubenville last week. It was an absolutely marvelous time, and I hope we can attend again in 2011.

I put together a page over on NOEBIE.com with links and information from Dean Martin Festival 2010. I'd encourage you to check it out, and to set a bookmark there as I'll be adding more in the coming days.

If you attended the festival, either this year or in the past, we'd love to hear your stories too. You can comment here, or on the other page, contact me by email, or leave a voicemail on the comment line at (312) 235-2139.

Direct from Steubenville

We're enjoying a wonderful time in Steubenville at the annual Dean Martin Festival. You'll find occasional (almost) real time reports over on Twitter, and my most recent uploads of pictures and videos on this Flickr set.

I'll also be putting together a podcast episode in a week or so with a full recap and some audio from various events here. In the meantime, enjoy this short video from Deana Martin's book signing this afternoon. She is gracious, beautiful and (like her father) a natural wit.
