Save Stuebenville's Grand Theater

The Steubenville Historic Landmarks Foundation is currently working to save the once elegant Grand Theater on 4th Street in downtown Steubenville. It was built in the 1920s, modeled after a theater in New York City. It was the second air conditioned theater in the nation, and was home both to movies and live acts. Dean Martin would have spent a great deal of time there as a child watching his beloved Westerns, and as a young man dreaming of stardom.



The restoration project includes plans for a Dean Martin Museum on site.

Your help is critical right now. The building is scheduled for demolition, and can only be saved if it gets a new roof in the next few months. The Historic Landmarks Foundation is looking for 120 businesses or individuals who can afford to donate $1000 each as founding donors for the project, but donations of any size would be appreciated.

My wife and I are currently discussing how much we can afford to donate, but we will definitely be making a donation of some amount this week, and would encourage you to do the same.

Please make checks payable to the Steubenville Historic Landmarks Foundation Grand Theater Restoration Project. The annual Dean Martin Festival in Steubenville, Ohio is less than a month away. Here's the schedule of events for 2010. Making Plans for Steubenville

For several years now, I've been wanting to get out to Steubenville, Ohio for the annual Dean Martin Festival that's held there. It looks like, Lord willing, that this may be the year.

My wife's parents have agreed to go along, and I'm trying to book rooms at a bed-and-breakfast in Steubenville for the weekend. There's always the Hampton Inn if that falls through.

If anyone else is considering making the trip, please get in touch so we can plan a get together while there. Here's the schedule of events for 2010.
